Taylor’s 13th Birthday!!

Today in Room11, Taylor celebrated her 13th birthday. Her mum (to her suprise) brought in a massive chocolate cake to share with her class. Mr Martin smothered it with Jaffas. Yum!

Year 8 Camp Fundraising

Last week the fundraising for the year 8 school camp started. The students can choose from a range of fundraising like lollie selling, garage sale, raffle tickets, Lotto tickets and Bowling. The reason for year 8 fundraising is so that children can raise money for their own camp fees and pay them off fully if they raise enough money.
So if any students come to you asking if you want to buy Tickets, or lollies of any sort, ask if they are doing it for their camp and if you have some spare change lying around, buy some – it will be worth it and we will be very thankful.

Writer’s Club

A New Year for a New Year 8

Hi my name is Brad. I am a new student this year and I am a year 8. There aren’t many New Year 8s this year actually. I have come from the West Coast but do not really live in Oamaru I am boarding at a High School just across the road from OIS. Being a new year 8 is kind of hard because you have to learn every thing from the start. Not being at OIS for a year already, means I have to try and catch up to the other students working pace. I think OIS is a great school and I am learning bit by bit how every thing works .I miss home and my old school but OIS is awesome and I am enjoying it here in Oamaru .The things I really enjoy about this school is the canteen which has really good food. I also like doing tech and modules which I never did at my old school. OIS is a lot different than my old school which only had an entire school roll of 18.

O.I.S 2009 Swimming Sports

2009 O.I.S Swimming Sports

The O.I.S swimming sports were fantastic. We had so many great swimmers this year. There was certainly some competition between the students of O.I.S.

Everyone was bursting with energy on the day as the first race of the swimming sports started. The houses were going absolutely crazy. The screaming and cheering was so loud that a few of the teachers got headaches.(he he)

The final race of the day was butterfly, everybody was out of breath from cheering so much so they were all quiet.

It was all over before we even knew it. It was a great day. I have a feeling there are some year 7’s out there who can’t wait till next years swimming sports.

At O.I.S this year we have four new teachers. Here is our interviews:

Mr Jenkins, Room 3:
What were your first impressions on the school?
Great setting, good staff and plenty of nice kids. Love the pool and the grass area.

What were your first impressions on your class?
My class is pretty good. I have a few students who need a ‘gentle reminder’ about how to behave.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I wanted to learn my trade in an Intermediate.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
No, more meetings than I was expecting.

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
YES.

Mr Brown, Room 5:
What were your first impressions about the school?
I was really glad that all the staff was so friendly. I was a bit worried because I came all the way from Auckland to teach here.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They were all so big!!! I’m used to teaching primary kids so that was a huge shock.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I heard it was the best school in Otago.

Was it every thing you expected Oamaru Intermediate?
No it is even better!

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
Absolutely! There is a lot to learn, but great kids and helpful staff make it all easy.

Mr Wansbrough’s, Room 13, interview:
What were you first impressions about the school?
Nice furniture.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They all seemed to love the colour blue.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
To continue to fund my regular trips to Monte Carlo and San Tropez.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
Oh, yes and so much more!

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
It’s like I’m in a dream.

What were you first impressions about the school?
Very tidy, well kept buildings and grounds, and friendly people.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They were all as nervous as each other, but showed they were keen to make a good first impression.
Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I wanted to find out what it was like to teach in an intermediate school and I knew some staff members here that I could learn a great deal from.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
Yes, pretty much.

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
I have enjoyed it very much.
