Our New Teachers

At O.I.S this year we have four new teachers. Here is our interviews:

Mr Jenkins, Room 3:
What were your first impressions on the school?
Great setting, good staff and plenty of nice kids. Love the pool and the grass area.

What were your first impressions on your class?
My class is pretty good. I have a few students who need a ‘gentle reminder’ about how to behave.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I wanted to learn my trade in an Intermediate.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
No, more meetings than I was expecting.

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
YES.

Mr Brown, Room 5:
What were your first impressions about the school?
I was really glad that all the staff was so friendly. I was a bit worried because I came all the way from Auckland to teach here.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They were all so big!!! I’m used to teaching primary kids so that was a huge shock.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I heard it was the best school in Otago.

Was it every thing you expected Oamaru Intermediate?
No it is even better!

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
Absolutely! There is a lot to learn, but great kids and helpful staff make it all easy.

Mr Wansbrough’s, Room 13, interview:
What were you first impressions about the school?
Nice furniture.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They all seemed to love the colour blue.

Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
To continue to fund my regular trips to Monte Carlo and San Tropez.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
Oh, yes and so much more!

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
It’s like I’m in a dream.

Mrs Caldwell’s, Room 14, interview:lucy-and-taylors-intro
What were you first impressions about the school?
Very tidy, well kept buildings and grounds, and friendly people.

What were your first impressions on your class?
They were all as nervous as each other, but showed they were keen to make a good first impression.
Why did you want to become a teacher at Oamaru Intermediate?
I wanted to find out what it was like to teach in an intermediate school and I knew some staff members here that I could learn a great deal from.

Was everything what you expected at Oamaru Intermediate?
Yes, pretty much.

Are you enjoying your first weeks at Oamaru Intermediate?
I have enjoyed it very much.
