Mt Somers

On the 10th of November, 2008 some of the yr8 students of O.I.S set off for their Mt Somers camp. On Monday the kids set off from O.I.S and traveled through Timaru, Temuka, Geraldine and last of all Staveley camp site. After we had unpacked our gear at Staveley we packed up our Day Packs and went on a day tramp to Sharplin Falls. It was FREEZING!

The next day we set off for our 3 day tramp up the Mt Somers track. Our first stop was the Woolshed Creek hut where we went swimming in the Emerald Pool and the Spa pool. The next day we set off for Pinnacles Hut but along the way we journeyed up the Trig R which was 973M high. We also ventured into the beautiful Water Caves. After we had got out of the Water caves we tramped up the saddle which was 1172M high and then we tramped down to Pinnacles hut.  On the last day of the tramp we tramped back to the Sharplin Falls car park where we were greatly surprised to be driven back to Staveley camp by an Argos which in a short term is an 8 wheeler quad bike. For the last day of our tramp we went and got our lunch in Timaru and then went paintballing. Mt Somers is the best!
