A Brand New Classroom at O.I.S

At O.I.S something interesting is happening. That something is a new classroom.

At the start of the year the staff didn’t think they had too many students but because of the fact that a lot of students have arrived during the school year so far, the school has decided to turn the old music room into a year eight classroom called Room 17 .

Below is a satelite photo of our school with a red ring around where Room 17 will be.school-satellite-showing-room17.JPG

Something very exciting is happening in our school. There is murder happening, JUST JOKING!!! But something quite exciting is happening, we’re getting a new classroom.

I interviewed two students, Monica and Caitlin and as well I interviewed the Principal, Mrs Healey and they told me what they thought about the new classroom. Here’s what they said……

Q: What did you think of the new classroom and why?
A:Monica said: I think that it will be pretty good because with less people there will be more                                                                                                                                                                space to move around in.
Caitlin said: I think that it will give the kids more teacher time.
Mrs Healey said: This will make the classes smaller which enables more teaching. As well you get more leadership opportunities.

Q: Do you think that this will help the school and why do you think that?
A:Monica said: Yes it will help because the kids will get more individual attention from their teacher
Caitlin said: Yes because teachers stress levels will go down.
Mrs Healey said: Yes, they will have a new teacher and the parents will be assured that the kids will have the right learning to fit their individual needs.

Q: What made you decide to put a new classroom in?
A:Mrs Healey said: We had more year eights than we planned

Q: Would you want to be one of the kids in the new classroom? Why?A:Monica said: Yes because I’ll be able to make new friends.
Caitlin said: I wouldn’t really mind but I have already settled in so it might be a bit harder to settle.

Q: And last of all what are some of the best points of getting a new classroom?A:Monica said: Noise levels will drop and the teachers will become less frustrated
Caitlin said: New furniture, new teacher and new friendships
Mrs Healey said: There will be more challenges as they will need more technology and it will be a busy time ahead but there have been NO negative comments. All the parents are happy for their child to go into the new classroom

A very well thought out interview! Perhaps you could interview some of the children in Rm 17 to find out what it is like to be in a different classroom…? Just an idea. Keep up the A-wesome work!!!!
